The algal bloom crisis that shut down desalination plants in southern Israel for nearly two weeks has taken a toll on the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). Within ten days, the lake lost roughly 870 million gallons (3.3 million cubic meters) of water as pumping surged to maintain a steady water supply for domestic and agricultural use across the country.
