Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Smoke from forest and peatland fires burning across Indonesia has pushed air quality in parts of Malaysian Borneo to hazardous levels, leading to a surge in respiratory illness, closing hundreds of schools and forcing the cancellation of Independence Day celebrations.
