THE World Health Organization describes breastfeeding as one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. That is why countries around the world observe World Breastfeeding Week every Aug. 1–7. This year’s theme, “Prioritize breastfeeding: Create sustainable support systems,” reminds us that successful breastfeeding depends not only on a mother’s commitment but also on the support she receives from families, communities, workplaces and government.
