DESPITE the government’s celebration of the Philippines’ entry into Pax Silica, the United States-led initiative to secure semiconductor supply chains and build artificial intelligence (AI) hubs, the promise of jobs, modernization and poverty alleviation remains far less certain than officials suggest. The reality is that most employment opportunities will be temporary, concentrated in construction and will disappear once projects are operational.
