A SCIENTIFIC panel created by the United Nations released its first independent assessment of artificial intelligence (AI) this month, and the warning at its center is a blunt one. The technology is moving faster than governments can measure it, let alone manage it. Behind the report is the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, a body of 40 independent experts that counts one Filipino among them: Maria Ressa, who co-chairs the panel with Canadian computer scientist Yoshua Bengio.
