A tofu seller’s pink cart has become a small defence against loneliness on the alley-like streets of east Tokyo. Akiko Sugaya sells soybean curd door to door, but for some elderly customers living alone her rounds also bring a regular visitor and someone who might notice when something has gone wrong.
