The Piaggio company switched gears from making military vehicles to the iconic scooter at the end of World War ll. Vespas were partially designed as a vehicle that could be used by women and priests, so they could zipped around in long skirts. The anniversary events include a Vespa parade through the streets of Rome on Saturday.
