Jews around the world are currently preparing to celebrate Shavuot, also known as the Feast of Weeks, according to the Hebrew calendar. Although it is historically an agricultural harvest festival, the deepest significance of Shavuot in Jewish religious memory lies in its commemoration of the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai (Mattan Torah).
