A new copy of the first poem ever to be transcribed in Old English has been unearthed in a library in Rome. It is a story that spans over a millennium, a hymn composed by a cowherd, documented by a saint, transcribed by an Italian monk and rediscovered by 21st century researchers thanks to digitisation and the internet.
