Labor groups and various human rights organizations have gathered in Manila to stage their annual Labor Day protest. The groups are calling on the government to increase the minimum wage to ₱1,200 and to scrap the 12 percent VAT and excise tax on oil, which they say worsen the hardships faced by ordinary Filipinos amid rising costs.
