It’s one of the great ironies of the contemporary art world that the more transgressive an artist is seen to be, the more likely it is they’ll find success. The more they challenge the mainstream, the more recognition they’ll enjoy from those who control that fast-moving and fickle current. There’s “transgression”, however, and then there’s transgression.
