The cost of 6 sheets, 12 pillowcases, 6 bath towels, 6 face towels and an assortment of caftans collected at the hotel laundry last week equaled what a dhobi took almost a year to earn in the 1960s. For one thing, there were no laundries. I know of an enterprising businessman who did invest in a laundry around that time and lost every penny.
