Although rare, Speakers have not been immune, and there were NCMs against Speakers too in the past. One of the most controversial NCMs in Sri Lanka Parliament was the one tabled against Speaker MH Mohamed in 1991 for rejecting an impeachment motion against President Ranasinghe Premadasa, which was spearheaded by three powerful ministers, Lalith Athulathmudali, Gamini Dissanayake and G M Premachandra.
