Spain will ban social media access for children under 16 and require platforms to implement stringent age-verification mechanisms, joining countries such as Australia, France and Denmark in efforts to rein in the growing influence of digital platforms on children. As of 2024, the countries that have imposed continuous bans on access to major social networking sites include China, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uganda.
