Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne informed Parliament yesterday (6) that the Supreme Court has determined that the Parliamentary Pensions (Repeal) Bill does not contain any provisions that are inconsistent with the Constitution and therefore, it can be passed by the Parliament with a simple majority. The Supreme Court ruling has been communicated to the Speaker on the relevant Bill in accordance with Article 121 (1) of the Constitution, subsequent to a legal challenge to the Bill.
