According to Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, electricity tariffs will be slashed by as much as 30 percent within the next three years. Addressing Parliament, the Minister said the average cost of generating a unit of electricity had already been reduced from Rs.37 to Rs.29. He stressed that any meaningful reduction in electricity bills was dependent on lowering generation costs.”
