Nipah virus infections have been reported in India, but Sri Lanka has not been affected so far. The risk of transmission to the island remains considerably low. There is, therefore, no cause for alarm. However, it is vital to revisit the lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic. Controlling the spread of infections ultimately depends more on public behaviour than on the efforts of health authorities or the security forces.
