The Eppawala, Giribawa , Rajanganaya and Nochchiyagama Integrated Water Supply Project-Stage 1 is a Nationally important water supply development initiative implemented by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) . Large extents of the Anuradhapura and Kurunegala Districts experience severe difficulties in accessing safe and reliable drinking water. These areas are also significantly affected by Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown aetiology (CKDu), which has been strongly linked to the quality of drinking water available to rural and semi‑urban communities.
