Time away from formal employment – most often due to childbirth, caregiving, or family responsibility – is treated as the primary explanation for why women fall out of paid work. While CVs are scrutinised for continuity, interviews are probed for “seamless re-entry,” and gaps are framed as deficits that require explanation.
