It must have been close to 5 a.m. when my tuk-tuk rolled to a stop outside the Sri Bhadrakali Amman Kovil at Havelock. The street was empty, the hour still wrapped in sleep. A lone priest was just unlocking the heavy wooden doors. There was no cauldron, no firewood, no rice; no signs yet of Thai Pongal.
