The media recently reported that liquor sales go up drastically on and after the day beneficiary families receive Aswesuma payments. This is not a new issue and the Government is being forced to spend billions of rupees paying Aswesuma benefits, at least some of which goes to the liquor mudalalis, both legal and illegal.
