The accident and emergency healthcare system in Sri Lanka is among the best in South Asia, but it needs further improvement and investment. A crucial Cabinet decision was made on this subject last week. Since emergency hospitalisations due to home/work accidents and trauma, road accidents, and severe cardiac and paralytic conditions are increasing, the necessity of establishing the existing emergency health services under a combined and standard structure to respond to these situations has been identified.
