Sri Lanka’s edible oil industry stands at a critical juncture. With national consumption estimated at 250,000 to 270,000 metric tonnes (MT) annually, the country remains heavily dependent on imports to meet domestic demand. Despite its long agricultural heritage, Sri Lanka produces only a fraction of the edible oils required, primarily coconut oil and a small quantity of palm oil.
