Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a very high-profile official visit to India last week fresh from Moscow’s brush-off of Washington’s overtures for “peace” with Ukraine. India, trapped in an Islamophobic confrontation with Pakistan that pressures Delhi to look both to Washington as well as Moscow for military aid, put on a grand welcome to the Russian President in what seems to be a careful geopolitical balancing act.
