Many areas of Sri Lanka were devastated by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’. The violent wind and relentless rain caused major flooding, provoking landslides. Entire villages were cut off and major towns went under the raging waters. Main roads and highways became inaccessible. Thousands of citizens were rendered homeless by the landslides and floods which preyed on them like a frensied predator.
