Amid heavy rainfall in the Moneragala region, a private bus carrying 23 passengers was swept away by strong floodwaters in the Kumbukkan Oya area along the Wellawaya-Colombo main road yesterday (27). Reportedly the water level had risen to nearly six feet, creating extremely hazardous conditions. Nevertheless, residents, together with the Police, managed to rescue all passengers using a tractor.
