The Department of Irrigation has issued a ‘Red’ flood warning for the downstream areas of the Gal Oya following heavy rainfall in the upper and middle catchments of the basin. The Senanayake Samudraya in Inginiyagala, Ampara, has reached full capacity, and opening the spill gates could trigger major flooding in the surrounding areas.
