MANILA, Philippines -- China’s maritime militia were deployed in record-high numbers across the South China Sea in 2025, with vessels increasingly concentrated around key disputed reefs near areas of tension with the Philippines, according to a Washington-based research project that monitors maritime disputes and activities in Asia.
