Situated between Anuradhapura on one side and Kurunegala on the other, the Giribawa area still remains a stronghold of traditional chena (shifting) cultivation. In the border villages adjoining the forests, people cultivate a variety of crops in their chena lands, striving hard to sustain their livelihoods. It is a solitary struggle.
