Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian on August 27, 2020, called the US sanctions on Chinese firms working in the South China sea ”illegal”, saying it is reasonable for Chinese companies to participate in “construction in their own country” and that such moves have “nothing to do with militarisation”.
